Behind the Project: A Kittery Main Bath Inspired by the Coastline

This main bathroom had an existing layout that worked well for our clients but had some design features that needed to be refreshed and updated to fit their lifestyles. To address this, we focused on refreshing the space with a neutral and coastal-inspired aesthetic. Soft greens and beiges replaced the previous colors, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere that complements the home’s coastal location. We hope that learning about this main bathroom will help you understand that your bathroom can be redesigned around the same layout and have a completely different look and feel by designing around a different aesthetic.

Infusing Neutral Coastal Design

The original bathroom had a dark and dated feeling with many dark tones throughout. One of the most significant downsides to this was that the space felt smaller and darker and it drew your attention to these design features.

In the newly designed bath, one of the primary goals was brightening the entire space, and helping the homeowners achieve a coastal feeling to choose materials that were refreshing and brought a bright and calm feeling to the space. Instead of typical blues and whites, a calming and unique color scheme emerged. The centerpiece was a custom sage green vanity by Harmoni, inspiring the entire palette. This fresh green pairs beautifully with light, glistening quartz countertops. See more of the space by visiting the project gallery.

Adding Some Tranquility

Designing a shower that feels both bright and open to the rest of the bathroom has completely transformed the space.

The original, enclosed shower felt cramped and closed off, but now the open design, featuring neutral large-scale tiles and an accent tile backdrop, creates a sense of connection and visual flow throughout the entire bathroom.
